3 New Spaces for Viola by Garth Knox now available

Just published : 3 new Spaces for Viola by Garth Knox. A continuation of the successful collection of Viola Studies “Viola Spaces”, these three new pieces explore the worlds of harmonics, microtones and sound experimentation in a light-hearted playful manner. As well as being valuable keys to understanding and working on extended techniques, these are also useful and enjoyable concert pieces or encores.

Kronos Quartet play Garth Knox

Garrth Knox’s composition for the Kronos Fifty for the Future project, “Satellites: III. Dimensions,” will be performed by the Kronos Quartet at this year’s Kronos Festival in San Francisco, running this Thursday through Saturday! (22nd to 24th June 2023)

CD Release: Complete String Quartets by Garth Knox

A new CD release, Open Spaces by the Ragazze Quartet (Amsterdam) features all three string quartets by Garth Knox. The first quartet, Satellites, was written for the Kronos Quartet and is part of their Fifty for the Future project . The second quartet, Four into Twenty, was written for the Ragazze Quartet. The third ‘quartet’ is called Quartet for One and is scored for solo viola! (written during the lockdown period of 2020). Played on this recording by Garth Knox.

The album is completed with a solo from the Violin Spaces by each member of the quartet plus a duo between Garth Knox and the viola player of the group, Annemijn Berkotte.

Stefanie Farrands premiers new work by Garth Knox in Sydney

Stefanie Farrands, principal viola of the Australian Chamber Orchestra will give the first performance of “Still” for solo viola by Garth Knox in Sydney on Sunday 9th October. This piece was specially written for her, commissioned by her family. A second performance will follow on 11th October in Melbourne.
